Sea view from the mountain
Join us on a journey through the Croatian hinterland and experience the beautiful forests of Lika and the rocks of the Middle Velebit. Follow the steep trails of the Middle Velebit that rise to the sky, offering breathtaking views of hundreds of islands along the eastern Adriatic coast. Explore the endless meadows of the Dinara mountain and swim in the Peruča Lake. This is an overland-style trip, a combination of relaxing drives through stunning landscapes, with a few more challenging off-road sections that will raise the adrenaline for some.
The tour begins in Baške Oštarije, at the border between the Middle and Southern Velebit. It passes through the dense forests of the Middle Velebit at altitudes between 600 and 1300 meters, through the heart of Lika, the city of Gospić, and surrounding villages that were heavily affected during the Homeland War of the 1990s. The tour continues across the meadows of the Southern Velebit and descends to the Adriatic Sea, then climbs back up to Velebit, where we will see the Velebit peak of Tulove Grede, which served as a backdrop for one of the most famous Wild West stories about the Native American chief Winnetou. The story was written by the German author Karl May, who had never been to America. The tour moves from Lika to the Dalmatian hinterland and the surroundings of the historic royal town of Knin, from where we head towards the Peručko Lake, after which we ascend to Croatia’s highest mountain, Dinara. From Dinara, we descend again towards the Peruča lake, where we conclude our tour at the campsite.
What can you expect on the journey? Sleeping under the starry sky and breathtaking views of the mountains and the sea. Along the way, you can enjoy local specialties such as Lika cheese Škripavac and potatoes, which you can buy from local family farms. Or taste fish specialties by the sea. If we're lucky, we might spot wild animals such as brown bears or gray wolves.
Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime?
